Affiliate disclosure
Small Team Cost is a reader-supported review site. Some of the links on this site are affiliate links, and this page explains what that means.
What an affiliate link is
If you click an affiliate link and then buy or sign up for a product, the company may pay us a commission. The price you pay is the same as it would be without the link. In some cases the link may carry a discount or an extended trial that the company offers to our readers.
How this affects what we write
It is meant not to. We decide which products to cover and how to rank them using the process described in How we review, and we include drawbacks for every product. We do not accept payment for favourable coverage. That said, you should know that we have a financial interest in readers clicking through, and you should weigh our recommendations with that in mind.
How we mark affiliate links
- Every article opens with a notice, placed above the first paragraph, saying that some links on the page are affiliate links.
- Affiliate links carry
rel="sponsored nofollow"in the page markup, as search engines ask. - Where an article contains affiliate links, we say so in the text near the links where it makes sense, not only at the top of the page.
Legal basis
United States. We follow the US Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255), which require clear and conspicuous disclosure of any material connection between a publisher and the products it recommends.
Australia. This site is operated from Australia. We aim to comply with the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010), including its prohibitions on misleading or deceptive conduct and false or misleading representations, and with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's guidance on online reviews and endorsements. In practice that means we do not publish fake or misleading reviews and we do not hide commercial relationships.
Affiliate networks and programs
We may participate in affiliate networks such as Awin, impact.com and CJ, as well as programs run directly by software vendors. When you click an affiliate link, the network or vendor sets its own cookies to record the referral. See our privacy policy for details.
