Mangools vs SE Ranking for Small Business Owners: What Your Money Buys Per Day

Last updated: 2026-10-16

Most SEO tool comparisons give you a feature checklist and a "best for" badge. If you run a small business and do your own SEO, that does not help much, because the question you actually have is simpler: how much work can I get done each day for the money? I read the official pricing pages for Mangools and SE Ranking, plus Semrush and Surfer as reference points, and turned the limits into daily numbers.

The pain: SEO tools are priced for agencies

Say you own a bakery, a plumbing company or a small online shop. You want to find out which phrases your customers search for, check what ranks on page one for them, and see whether your own pages are moving up. You do not have a marketing team. You might have one helper, or a partner who does the website.

The big names in this space are built for agencies and in-house teams, and the price shows it. Semrush starts at $117.33 a month on annual billing for its entry SEO plan. SE Ranking's entry plan is $103.20 a month on annual billing. Mangools starts at $37.70 a month on annual billing. Those are very different starting points for a business that might use the tool an hour or two a week.

The prices are only half the story, though. The other half is the limits: how many keyword lookups per day, how many keywords tracked, how many people can log in. Two plans at similar prices can give you very different amounts of usable work, and that is where I focused.

How I compared

I did not use any of these tools for this article. Everything here comes from the vendors' own pricing pages, which I read and copied on 2026-10-16. I can tell you what the price list says, not how the software feels to use or how accurate its data is. Those are things I have no basis to judge.

I compared on four criteria:

  1. Price for the entry plans, billed monthly and billed yearly.
  2. Daily and monthly limits: keyword lookups, SERP lookups (a SERP is the list of results Google shows for a search), tracked keywords and backlinks.
  3. Seats: how many people can use one subscription.
  4. What is missing or unclear on the page, so you know what to ask before you pay.

Mangools and SE Ranking are the main comparison. Semrush and Surfer appear in one table as reference points, because they show up in almost every "best SEO tools" list. Surfer is mainly a content-optimization tool, not a keyword database, so it is not a like-for-like match with the others.

Comparison table

Pricing checked on 2026-10-16. All prices are per month, before tax. "Yearly" means the monthly figure when billed annually. Mangools and Semrush show "$" without naming the currency, so I treated it as USD.

A few notes on that table:

  • Mangools' page shows the yearly price as the big number. Its saving over monthly billing is $279.60 a year on Basic, $339.60 on Premium and $519.60 on Agency, as printed on the page.
  • SE Ranking's page does not label $103.20 as the annual price. It is exactly 80% of $129, and the page mentions a 20% discount, so I read it as annual billing. Annual plans are paid up front.
  • Semrush's page does not list how many users each plan allows, and Surfer's seat counts are not clearly labeled, so I left both out of the seat comparisons below.

The original part: what your money actually buys per day

This is the table I wanted to find and could not. Mangools publishes hard daily caps. SE Ranking's page gives a few numbers (tracked keywords, projects) and calls keyword research "unlimited," so the two do not line up perfectly. I put both in one place.

Rank historyNot statedNot statedNot stated6 monthsFull period

The AI search rows are not a like-for-like match: Mangools says "prompts monitored," SE Ranking says "prompts tracked daily," and I could not confirm they measure the same thing.

Two things worth noticing. First, Mangools' daily caps jump fast from plan to plan: Premium is five times Basic for keyword and SERP lookups, and Agency is 12 times Basic. Second, SE Ranking never tells you a daily lookup number, so "unlimited" is something you would need to test during the 14-day trial. I could not find a fair-use rule on the page.

What each lookup costs if you use the full allowance

If you used your full daily allowance for 30 days, here is the price of 100 lookups. This is a ceiling on value, not a typical bill: almost nobody uses every lookup every day. It is still the fairest way to compare plans that differ in size.

PlanLookups per 30 daysCost per 100 lookups, yearly billingCost per 100 lookups, monthly billing
Mangools Basic3,000$1.26$2.03
Mangools Premium15,000$0.35$0.54
Mangools Agency36,000$0.27$0.39
SE Ranking Core / GrowthNo cap statedNot computableNot computable

The cost is the same for keyword lookups and for SERP lookups, because the caps are the same. But a plan covers both at once, so you are not paying that amount twice. Think of it as the price of a lookup if you used one bucket flat out.

Here is why the ceiling matters. If you do 20 lookups a day (600 a month), Basic on yearly billing works out to about $6.28 per 100 lookups, not $1.26. That 20-a-day figure is my own example, not a number from the vendor. The point: pick the plan that fits your real habits, because the cheaper per-lookup plans only pay off if you use them.

Rank tracking, the one place the two tools compare directly

Both tools publish tracked-keyword counts, so this one is computable for both. Here is the monthly cost per 100 tracked keywords, with Semrush as a reference.⁵

PlanTracked keywordsPer 100, yearly billingPer 100, monthly billing
Mangools Basic200$18.85$30.50
Mangools Premium700$7.53$11.57
Mangools Agency1,500$6.51$9.40
SE Ranking Core2,000$5.16$6.45
SE Ranking Growth5,000$4.46$5.58
Semrush SEO (reference)500$23.47$27.80

The formula is in footnote 5 below.

SE Ranking is cheaper per tracked keyword at every tier, and it updates daily on both plans while Mangools updates weekly on Basic and Premium. If tracking a few hundred or a few thousand keywords is your main job, the numbers favor SE Ranking. If you mostly want to look up keywords and check search results, Mangools' published caps are cheap and specific.

Which plan a 1-, 3- and 5-person business would need

Business sizeMangoolsSE Ranking
1 personBasic: $37.70 yearly / $61.00 monthlyCore: $103.20 yearly / $129.00 monthly
3 peoplePremium: $52.70 yearly / $81.00 monthly³Growth (3 seats included): $223.20 yearly / $279.00 monthly. Or Core plus 2 extra seats: from $161 monthly⁴
5 peopleAgency: $97.70 yearly / $141.00 monthly³Core plus 4 extra seats: from $193 monthly⁴. Or Growth plus 2 extra seats: from $311 monthly⁴

Semrush is not in this table because its page does not give user limits per plan, and I did not want to guess. Its page does mention extra users "starting at $45/mo," but not which plan that applies to.

Footnotes: how the numbers are calculated

  1. Cost per 100 lookups = monthly price ÷ (daily limit × 30) × 100. Example: Mangools Basic, yearly billing = $37.70 ÷ (100 × 30) × 100 = $1.26. Monthly billing = $61.00 ÷ 3,000 × 100 = $2.03.
  2. SE Ranking's page lists an "on page checker and SERP analyzer" figure (50 on Core, 1,000 on Growth) and site-audit volumes counted in pages. It does not say what period the first figure covers, and neither matches Mangools' per-request daily caps, so I did not compare them.
  3. Mangools lists "3 extra seats" for Premium and "5 extra seats" for Agency. I read "extra" as on top of your own account, so Premium would cover up to four people and Agency up to six. The page does not say whether those extra seats cost anything on top of the plan price, so the totals above are plan prices only.
  4. SE Ranking says extra manager seats start at $16 each. The page does not say whether that is a monthly or yearly-billing price, so I only added it to the monthly figures: $129 + 2 × $16 = $161, $129 + 4 × $16 = $193, $279 + 2 × $16 = $311. "From" means the page says "from," so the real number could be higher.
  5. Cost per 100 tracked keywords = plan price ÷ tracked keywords × 100. Example: SE Ranking Core, yearly billing = $103.20 ÷ 2,000 × 100 = $5.16. Semrush SEO = $117.33 ÷ 500 × 100 = $23.47.
  6. All totals are before tax.

Best pick for three kinds of readers

You are a one-person business and mostly research keywords and check search results. On paper, Mangools Basic is the lowest entry cost in this whole comparison ($37.70 yearly, $61.00 monthly), and it publishes clear daily limits: 100 keyword lookups and 100 SERP lookups a day. Whether that is enough depends on your habits, but it is a hard number you can check against how often you research. If you will track more than 200 keywords, Basic runs out first.

You are two or three people and want to share one subscription. Mangools Premium lists three extra seats and 500 lookups a day for $52.70 yearly or $81.00 monthly, which is the cheapest way I found to cover three people. SE Ranking's closest match is Growth at $223.20 yearly. The other route is Core plus extra seats, which I could only price on monthly billing. The trade-off is that Premium still updates rank positions weekly, not daily, and it tracks 700 keywords.

You mainly care about tracking how your rankings move, and you have a larger site. This is where SE Ranking's numbers look better. Core tracks 2,000 keywords with daily updates for $103.20 yearly, and keeps six months of history. Growth tracks 5,000 and keeps the full history. If you follow a few hundred keywords across several pages, the per-keyword table above favors SE Ranking, but you will pay more per month.

I would not choose Semrush or Surfer from this list unless you already know you need them. Semrush's entry plan costs more than three times Mangools Basic on yearly billing and tracks only 500 keywords. Surfer's entry plan is $49 a month on annual billing, but it is built around writing and optimizing content documents (120 on Discovery), not around keyword research.

Drawbacks worth knowing

I would rather you hear these from me than find them after signing up.

  • Mangools Basic has no extra seats. The page says so outright. If a second person ever needs access, you move up to Premium, a jump from $37.70 to $52.70 yearly.
  • Mangools updates ranks weekly on Basic and Premium. Only Agency, at $97.70 yearly, updates daily. If you want to see the effect of a change within a day or two, weekly updates will feel slow.
  • Basic's keyword tracking cap is small. 200 keywords may be fine for one small site, but it is the lowest tracked-keyword number in this whole comparison.
  • Mangools' monthly billing is expensive. $61.00 a month versus $37.70 on yearly billing means paying about 62% more to keep the option to leave. The page shows a 48-hour money-back guarantee, but it only covers 48 hours after payment.
  • Some Mangools numbers are not explained. "Unlimited*" for keyword suggestions on Premium and Agency has an asterisk, and the page does not say what the asterisk means. I also could not find out what extra seats cost.
  • SE Ranking is a bigger upfront spend. Core is $103.20 yearly or $129.00 monthly, about 2.7 times Mangools Basic on yearly billing. Annual plans are prepaid.
  • SE Ranking does not publish its lookup limits. "Unlimited keyword, competitor, backlink research" is the page's wording, but the backlink row in the plan table is empty. I could not confirm any cap or fair-use rule.
  • SE Ranking seats add up quickly. Core includes one seat. Extra seats start at $16 each, and the page says only one active session is allowed at a time, so sharing one login is discouraged.
  • Prices are a snapshot. Pricing pages change, and some vendors show different plan names in different regions. Check the page you see before you decide.
  • I could not verify everything. Data quality, database size and ease of use are things the pricing pages do not cover, so I have not compared them.

Try the budget-friendly option

If you are a one-to-three person business and want the lowest entry cost with clear daily limits, Mangools is the one I would look at first. Check the Basic and Premium plans against the tables above, and use the 48-hour money-back guarantee as your safety net.
